Why do you draw mermaids?

I´ve always been curious about the idea of a mermaid, what would happen if they were humanized or put into our modern settings.

What mediums do you use and why?

I use cotton paper and gouache, I love the texture the paper can bring to the illustration! And I love using gouache because of the strongeness in it´s colors and boldness.

How long does each illustration take?

It depends a lot on each mermaid! Some take me half an hour, others take me up to 4 hours.

What’s your creative process?

I always carry a list (on my phone) of all the mermaids I think of during the day so the list is always growing!
I have always loved textures and fashion so that definitely helps when I´m planning my next mermaid.
I draw the mermaid until I like the outline and then begin the coloring process, some of them I just scan and they´re ready! Others I do some digital "clean  up" as I like to call it.

Who is your favorite mermaid on instagram?

I don´t have just one! It would be impossible I think! But I do love the Mermaids for Change profile! I love when you can mix the passion for something and a good cause. (and awesome costumes and photography of mermaids!)

How long have you been creating?

For about 6 years now!
